The Controller of Customs in charge of Ogun State, Sani Madugu today, narrated to newsmen how hoodlums attacked his convoy on Tuesday damaging customs official vehicle and carting away a complete customs uniform and official plate number of one of the vehicles on his convoy.
According to Madugu, it took the intervention of other officers who were called up for reinforcement and men of the Nigeria Police to save him and his men from the attackers, who fled from the scene on sighting the officers.
Madugu said his convoy of two back up vehicles and a staff car were held in traffic on Tuesday evening after close of work when unknown persons attacked him.
While showing the damage done to customs vehicles, Madugu said the attack may not be unconnected with his command uncompromising resolve at fighting smuggling in the state.
He added that , customs in Ogun State will not be deterred by any form of attack or intimidation as his men will continue the suppression of smuggling with lawful raids at various places and points where smuggled items are kept.
He said the command has made seizures worth over N1b between January and September 2017 and the attack on customs may be an aggression against the service for the continuous seizures.
